Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about digitising your media

Safety & Security

Do you send my tapes or photos overseas for processing?
Absolutely not. All work is performed personally by us in our secure studio in South Tamworth, NSW. Your memories never leave our hands until they are posted back to you.

Do I get my original tapes and photos back?
Yes! We return all your original media along with your new digital files. If you specifically do not want them back (to save on return postage), let us know and we can securely dispose of them for you.

What if my tapes are moldy or broken?
We specialize in tape repair and mold cleaning. We use a dedicated cleaning process to remove white mold spores before scanning to ensure the best possible picture and to protect our professional equipment.

Technical Questions

What file format will I receive?
By default, we provide high-quality **MP4** files. These are universal and will play on your Smart TV, Mac, PC, and smartphone. We can also provide uncompressed **AVI** or **MOV** files for professional editors upon request.

What is the difference between 600 DPI and 1200 DPI for photos?
600 DPI is standard archival quality. **1200 DPI** (our new high-speed standard) captures four times the detail, allowing you to enlarge a small 6×4 photo to a poster-sized print without it looking “blurry” or pixelated.

How many hours of video can fit on a USB?
Video files are roughly 1GB to 2GB per hour. A standard 32GB USB can typically hold 15–20 hours of family footage easily.

Shipping & Drop-off

Do I need to make an appointment to drop off items?
No appointment is necessary during our standard business hours. Just head to our studio at **7 John Street, South Tamworth**. If you’re coming from out of town, a quick call first is always appreciated!

How long does the process take?
Most orders are completed within **7–14 days**. Larger archives (50+ tapes or 1,000+ photos) may take slightly longer. If you have a deadline (like a birthday or funeral), let us know and we will prioritize your job.

How should I pack my items for postage?
Use a sturdy box and wrap tapes in bubble wrap so they don’t rattle. For photos, place them in a Ziploc bag or envelope to keep them flat and dry. We recommend using **Australia Post Registered Mail** for tracking.
