Mouldy VHS & Video Tape Restoration

Don’t throw your memories away. Our professional RTI Tapechek cleaning process can save your mouldy tapes.

Have you opened an old box of video tapes only to find a white, fuzzy substance covering the reels? That is mould, and it is the #1 enemy of your family memories. If left untreated, it will eventually eat the magnetic layer off the plastic, leaving you with a blank tape.

⚠️ Why is mould dangerous?

  • It destroys the magnetic coating: Mould eats the binder that holds the video data to the tape.
  • It ruins your player: Playing a mouldy tape spreads spores to the internal heads of your VCR, potentially ruining the machine and any other tapes you play afterwards.
  • It causes tape snapping: Mould makes the tape sticky, causing it to tangle or snap during playback.

How We Save Your Tapes: The RTI Tapechek Process

At Digital Media Now, we don’t just “wipe” your tapes. We use the industry-standard RTI Tapechek machine to perform a deep, mechanical clean and restoration.

Our Restoration Steps:

  1. Inspection: We examine the tape to determine the extent of the mould growth.
  2. Mechanical Cleaning: Your tape is run through our RTI Tapechek system, which uses a precision vacuum and high-speed wiping process to remove spores and debris.
  3. Burnishing: The system “polishes” the tape surface to ensure smooth playback.
  4. Digitisation: Once cleaned, we immediately transfer the tape to a high-quality MP4 file.
