High-Definition Super 8 & 8mm Film Scanning
Better than 1080p. We capture your family films using custom-modified hardware for superior clarity and detail.
At Digital Media Now, we don’t settle for standard consumer-grade transfers. Most “box store” transfer services crop your film or compress the file so much that you lose the fine grain and detail of the original Super 8 footage.
We use modified Kodak Reels scanning systems. By using a custom-developed BIOS and modified firmware, we have unlocked the full potential of the image sensor to provide a professional-grade transfer that exceeds standard HD services.
The Technical Edge
- Resolution: 1920×1440 (Full Frame)
- Aspect Ratio: Native 4:3
- Bitrate: High-bitrate capture for maximum colour depth
- Hardware: Modified BIOS Kodak Reels
Why 1920×1440 Matters
Standard High Definition (1080p) is a widescreen format. Because Super 8 film was shot in a squarer 4:3 format, 1080p transfers often result in heavy cropping of the top and bottom of your memories. Our 1440p vertical resolution ensures we capture the entire film frame from edge to edge.
Our Film Scanning Process
- Clean & Prep: Every reel is inspected and cleaned of dust and debris before scanning.
- Frame-by-Frame Capture: Our modified systems scan the film frame-by-frame for 100% flicker-free playback.
- Enhanced Bitrate: The modified BIOS allows for a much higher data rate, preserving the rich colours and highlights of the original film stock.
- Digital Delivery: Files are delivered in high-quality MP4 format, ready for editing, sharing, or archiving on USB.

We provide flat-rate pricing based on reel size, including the high-bitrate 1440p upgrade at no extra cost.
